Cancer SUCKS! Everybody knows somebody

Jonah's Story

When I was 12 years old a friend of mine was diagnosed with a brain tumor. For the next year and a half, I would visit my friend every couple of weeks growing closer to him, his siblings and his parents. I did everything I could to support my friend through treatment, remission and eventually the reoccurrence of the disease.

After my friend passed away nearly three years ago, I made a promise to try to help others who were suffering.

In 2007, I started a Facebook group called "I bet I can find 1,000,000 people who hate cancer". Immediately, I started to get testimonials, home videos, emails and stories from those who were touched by Cancer. The group went viral and quickly grew to over 16,000 members. By the end of 2009 the group had over 1.6M members. Today we are 1.8 million members strong and continuing to grow.

Recently, I have set my sights on realizing a new goal: to mobilize our online community to do more in the search for the cure for Cancer. I have approached Princess Margaret Hospital (a world renowned cancer research and treatment facility) and together we are creating ways for the members of this group, their families and friends to say Cancer SUCKS!

Let's fund smart ideas that are going to make small but immediate changes. I use my iPhone to find my friends anywhere – I want to see technology finding tumours that fast!
